Michele Carey, born Michele Lee Henson, was the child of Stanley Willard Henson, Jr who was a physician in America and Thelma B. Burnell Henson. Michele Carey, or Michele Lee Henson, was born on the 26th of February 1942 in Annapolis, Maryland, United States of America. She had a prodigious piano playing as a teenager and she took home the national prize at the Chicago Music Festival at just thirteen years of age. Her family settled in Fort Collins in Colorado, after which she graduated from high school education through Fort Collins High School in 1960.
